We want to work with you to build a complete portfolio of services
Medical Direction Services
MDSI offers medical direction services nationally for your company to resell. This allows you to offer a full-service AED program for your customer base.
We recommend that medical direction be maintained as a key component of an AED program because physician involvement is much more than just being compliant with AED regulations. Our entire healthcare professional team provides medical expertise and critical key components of program quality assurance and risk management.
These elements include:
- Physician involvement combined with AED oversight increases program quality assurance and helps mitigate risk associated with elements of an AED program not being response ready.
- AED post-use, it is essential to review the PAD system’s performance including review of the AED data and the electrocardiograph (ECG) tracing from the AED. The rescuer response is benchmarked for possible improvement and the AED shock behavior is evaluated. This is best practice to measure and improve the response.
- A Physician Review Report is written to support the response or opportunities for improvement.
- The healthcare team is a critical link between the AED program, EMS and the hospital care team after an AED event. The ECG may need to be forwarded to a victim’s personal Physician affecting a long-term treatment plan.
- Medical direction also provides expertise and protection in the event of a challenge to the AED response or legal action.
Prescription Services
The FDA requires a prescription at the federal level for most AEDs currently on the market. The only over the counter (OTC) AED on the market, requires a prescription to purchase certain supplies such as infant/child pads. It is important to recognize that a prescription is not medical direction, but medical direction does include a prescription.
